Communication is the cause of many problems at work -. or rather the lack of communications Bad communication leads to wasted arguments, misunderstandings, mistakes and time trying to determine the way in the future
Health and Safety for equality and diversity Performance Employee Engagement retention Change Management
Non-compliance communicate your policy on equality and diversity to cases of bullying and harassment, that would be opened, as an organization to Employee courts or prosecution under civil law.
The biggest mistake of change management is the lack of communication. Getting people to understand why the change is happening is the biggest hurdle to accept it.
The biggest change to communicate effectively is redundancy. Redundancy is a change that affects everyone in an organization, whether you are laid off or not. Even if the redundancy will take place on a voluntary basis, the communication must still clear and easily understandable.
So, why is the communication in the workplace so difficult? Is it a lack of understanding of ourselves, and what’s going on there?
our communication
improving our communication can be an easy task if we want it. First, we must recognize how we communicate and the first step is to listen to here which we communicate. This means actively listening to what is said, not only to the words used, but, as it is said and why. Professor Albert Mehrabian has conducted much research in the field of body language and non-verbal communication. His most famous model, and the often quoted and often inaccurate, that communication is made from
7% of meaning in the words spoken. 38% of the importance of paralinguistic (the way that the words be said). 55% of meaning is in facial expression.
This is the simplified version of Mehrabian established research, that these figures were about feelings and attitudes in each area, as we actively listen .. we need to be aware if all three areas of communication, verbal and face to face. When we communicate with other media, telephone, in writing, e-mail, etc., this model is not reliable.
By listening, we communicate with us in a position to understand if our message has got to be. If not then our verbalization of the work it takes to make it clearer. The fewer questions to be asked that the message is understood or that they do not hear the first place!
If the communication is written, there’s more confidence in the words used and interpreted by the reader important. Written communications must be through well thought out and the words used wisely. English is read depending on your mood when reading it. The same sentence in three different states of mind, anger, excitement or read your three completely different meanings. The written message will not change, only to have a state of mind.
is time to make this issue of e-mail quickly and often efficient way of communicating with many people simultaneously. How many of us will receive an e-mail and was angry with its content and fired from a response only to regret it if the message is read again at a later time or date? The message has not changed, only the state of our mind.
communication on the phone is a little easier than you to answer questions when receiving the message touches a nerve to clarify for understanding. Without the visual cues, communication gets difficult. VoIP, Voice over Internet Protocol services such as Skype, Windows Messenger and other video-phone offer. This gives us the three areas and Mahbrabian model comes in. play
If we are able to confidently say that our communication is good – and be honest with you here, most of us could improve in some areas! Then we must try to understand how the other person communicates.
There are various models of how we communicate, for example
NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), Transactional Analysis
In NLP three communication designs are described are
Visual Auditory Kinesthetic
A person who communicates auditory -. Uses of sound – to describe what uses phrases like: “It sounds like …” or “I hear what you say,” You have one too. inner voice and usually rehearse conversations before.
A person who communicates using kinesthetic feelings and gut feeling to describe something and usually uses expressions like “I feel that …” or “. That does not sit well with me”
Transactional Analysis was developed by Eric Berne in the 1950s. Berne describes three states communication parents, adults and children. These states are in all of us, as we all have an authority figure had increased to (parent), we are adults and we all have kids.
In the model there are several states within parent and child. A parent is either nurturing or dominant. A child will either be adjusted (positive or negative) or free (creative, mischievous, free thinking). an adult level headed and calm.
Neither of the communication styles of NLP and transactional analysis is right or wrong, and we all use them at some point. We have a style that is stronger than all the others, and this will be our preferred communication style.
When using Transactional Analysis, the ideal condition for effective communication is for adults and adults of the most productive. The aim of transactional analysis is a transaction (conversation) in the state left of “I’m OK, You’re OK ‘and this is achieved only with an adult to Adult transaction.
If you provided account to clarify questions of what is being said and if the communication is not clear, make the other person to work a little harder to explain, what they mean .. We help everyone – each other with our communication skills and this can only improve the way messages are sent and received
